Meet Charlie Matheson. Blue eyed, fierce warrior, with a stubborn mind of her own. Miles Matheson’s niece (or daughter, or niece, what do you think?).
Meet Sebastian Monroe. Former General, former president. Miles’ former best friend, and brother (because some things never change). He is Charlie’s enemy. Or used to be her enemy but not so much anymore?
At the beginning of season two these two crash into each other’s worlds, unexpectedly. There is lots of history, lots of twists and turns.
She tries to kill him and fails. She annoys the hell out of him, but he never hurts her . He saves her life ( and she saves his, and then he saves hers again by coming back). Really there is a lot of saving lives between these two.
They make their way back to the rest of the group to fight on the same side, against a threat that could change everything forever.
And that is the point in the story where, against all odds, another story is born in the story that is Revolution. A story that spoke and still speaks to a lot of fans. Charloe was born. Both David Lyons and Tracy Spiridakos did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life. Their complicated pasts, the darkness, the loss, the impossible hard world they live in. It touched something in a lot of people.
The tensed energy, the dynamics, the conversations between them with their eyes only. What was and is happening over there between those two? Even David Lyons said in an interview he was not sure. The dynamic between Charlie and Bass is an interesting one to say the least. It’s that dynamic interaction that made Charloe fans start to root for them. The way two people crossed each other’s roads, to fight on the same side.
What happens when somebody indeed is different than you might think they would be? What if, like Tracy Spiridakos said herself about Charlie, a man toys with your morals in a dangerous, but exciting way?
It made fans start to write (and read) amazing stories on their own in the form of fan fiction, in the form of conversations on twitter, in the form of posts on other social media. To fill in what was going on, what happened or what could happen. To explore their past, the present and their possible futures.
Isn’t it great that one story, their characters, and these two characters in particular, Charlie and Bass, can ignite that inspiration? Isn’t it wonderful that against all odds, the paths of two people came together in a very exciting and electric way?
Now, that’s the beauty of a great story!
